Well, Massimo Ferrero has been amking all the headlines in Italian football since taking over as President of Sampdoria in 2014. This time however, Ferrero seems to be over reaching as he hopes to bring Lionel Messi to Sampdoria.
In the late 80s and early 90s, Sampdoria were a major force in European football and were one of the giants of Italian football, winning 4 Copa Italias and one Seria A. in recent years however, Sampdoria have been reduced to a middle table Seria A club and Ferrero is on a mission to restore his beloved club to its glory days. Speaking in an interview with Sky Sport 24, Ferrero discussed his dreams for Sampdoria
“I want to be at the heart of a great Sampdoria again,” Ferrero told Sky Sport 24.
“I want to repeat what Paolo Mantovani achieved with Sampdoria.
“The signing of my dreams? I am always aiming high and the dream signing would be Messi.
“I can only say that he likes Sampdoria’s colours and that I am here to win things and not to count ants.”
Ferrero also stated that Sampdoria had plans in place for a few marquee signings in the summer.
Ferrero might be able to return Sampdoria to their glory days but Lionel Messi is out of the question, a one club player who, should he decide to move would rather join one of the traditional heavyweights of European football would not be joining Sampdoria anytime soon.
